Kenneth William Whittington
Oklahoma City - Kenneth William Whittington was born February 3, 1934 in Amarillo, Texas and passed away August 5, 2021 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Kenneth graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Texas Tech University in 1956 and worked 7 years for Phillips Petroleum Company. He felt called to medicine and graduated with an MD from The University of Oklahoma in 1968. He practiced family medicine in Bethany, OK and concluded his career as the Vice President of Medical Affairs for Deaconess Hospital.
Survived by his wife Alice Irelan Whittington, whom he married in 1955, and three children, Linda Whittington, Nancy (Paul) Labadie, and Ken (Susan) Whittington. Also survived by his three grandchildren Sara (Brian) Kouhdari, Will (Lizzie) Labadie, and Alli Whittington who were the apples of his eye along with three little great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special cousin Kim Lilly and several other loving family members.
Kenneth was at his best in service to others. He cared deeply about his patients and the many organizations he served during his life. Service to his church was paramount including being an Ordained Presbyterian Elder, Moderator of Oklahoma Presbytery and Commissioner to General Assembly. He served numerous medical societies including as President of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians, The American Academy of Family Physicians, and Board of Trustees on the Oklahoma State Medical Association. Ken also served his community with dedication including, Bethany Kiwanis, All Sports Association, The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital, and The Oklahoma City Sail and Power Squadron. He was also a team physician for several Putnam City Schools which led him to be one of the founders of the Oklahoma Blood Institute
A cradle Presbyterian, his memorial service will be held at his church Westminster Presbyterian, 4400 N. Shartel in Oklahoma City, OK on Wednesday August 11, 2021 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a gift in his memory to the organization of your choice
