OAFP AWARD NOMINATION INFORMATION

These awards are limited to physicians, residents, and practices in Family Medicine. Information about each award can be found below. Honorees are celebrated each year at the OAFP Scientific Assembly Family Physician of the Year Dinner in conjunction with with the EXPLORE Healthcare Summit.

Family Physician of the Year

The OAFP wishes to recognize family physicians with remarkable contributions to family medicine, to patients, and to Oklahoma.

The Family Physician of the Year Award honors a physician who exemplifies compassionate, comprehensive, and caring family medicine on an ongoing basis. This physician actively participates in community affairs and initiatives that improve the quality of life to their community. They serve as a credible and inspiring role model both professionally and personally to their community, other healthcare professionals, residents, and medical students. They effectively represent the specialty of family medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) through public speaking. Additionall, they are in good standing within the medical community and hold membership with the AAFP.

Friend of Family Medicine

This award recognizes a lay person in for their commitment to Family Medicine in Oklahoma and/or work to promote the specialty of Family Medicine.

Patient Advocate of the Year

This award is presented in recognition of outstanding commitment, promotion, and advocacy of the specialty of Family Medicine for the betterment of the health of the people of Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Family Medicine Resident of the Year award recognizes a first, second, or third-year resident who represents the finest characteristics and leadership of family medicine.

Family Medicine Teacher/Preceptor of the Year

The Family Medicine Teacher/Preceptor of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional family medicine educator or preceptor in Oklahoma. Nominees should demonstrate dedication to preparing the next generation of family physicians to provide excellenct, patient-centered care. The OAFP wishes to recognize remarkable family medicine teachers/preceptors, whether full or part-time, or volunteer.
